In the entire printing and packaging industry, color box packaging printing is a relatively complex category. Due to variations in design, structure, shape, and processes, many aspects lack standardized procedures. Today, we have compiled common structural designs for single-sheet color box packaging, mainly divided into two parts: tubular packaging boxes and tray-style packaging boxes.
Tubular Packaging Structure Design
Tubular packaging boxes are common in everyday packaging. Most color box packaging, such as food, pharmaceuticals, and daily necessities, uses this packaging structure. Its characteristic is that during the forming process, the box lid and bottom need to be assembled (or glued) and fixed or sealed by folding flaps. Most are single-unit structures (the unfolded structure is a whole), with adhesive seams on the sides of the box. The basic shape of the paper box is quadrilateral, but it can also be expanded into polygons. The main difference in the structural characteristics of tubular packaging boxes lies in the assembly method of the lid and bottom. Let's take a look at the different lid and bottom structures of tubular packaging boxes.
1
Tubular Packaging Box Lid Structure
The box lid is the entrance for inserting goods and the exit for consumers to retrieve goods. Therefore, the structural design requires easy assembly and convenient opening, protecting the goods while meeting the opening requirements of specific packaging, such as multiple openings or one-time anti-counterfeiting opening methods. The main structures of tubular packaging box lids are as follows.
Insert Swing Lid
Its lid has three swing lid parts, and the main lid has an extended tongue for insertion into the box body to achieve a sealing effect. The interlocking relationship of the swing lid should be considered during design. This type of lid is widely used in tubular packaging boxes.

Interlocking Lid
This structure uses the swing lids on the front and back to interlock, making the seal more secure, but assembly and opening are slightly more troublesome.

Insert Lock
A combination of insertion and locking, this structure is more secure than the insert swing lid.

Swing Lid Double Insurance Insertion
This structure makes the swing lid double-interlocked, very secure, and the interlocking mouth of the swing lid and lid tongue can be omitted, making it easier for repeated opening and use.

Adhesive Sealing
This adhesive method has good sealing performance and is suitable for automated machine production, but it cannot be reopened. It is mainly suitable for packaging powdery and granular goods, such as washing powder and cereals. Once opened, it cannot be reused.

One-Time Anti-Counterfeiting
This packaging structure uses serrated cutting lines. When consumers open the packaging, the packaging structure is destroyed, preventing anyone from reusing the packaging for counterfeiting. This type of packaging box is mainly used for pharmaceutical packaging and some small food packaging. Film packaging/tissue box packaging currently also uses this opening method.

Positive Press Sealing
Utilizing the folding resistance and toughness of the paper, using curved fold lines, pressing down the flaps can achieve sealing. This structure is extremely convenient for assembly, opening, and use, and it is also space-saving and aesthetically pleasing, suitable for packaging small goods.

Continuous Swing Flap Interlocking
This interlocking packaging structure is aesthetically pleasing and highly decorative, but manual assembly and opening are more troublesome. It is suitable for gift packaging, such as wedding candy boxes and Christmas gift boxes.

Tubular Packaging Box Bottom Structure
The bottom of the box bears the weight of the goods, so firmness is emphasized. In addition, when loading goods, whether it is machine loading or manual loading, simple structure and convenient assembly are basic requirements. The main types of tubular packaging box bottoms are as follows.
1
Interlocking Self-Locking Bottom
Using the four swing flaps at the bottom of the tubular packaging box, they are designed to interlock with each other. This interlocking is completed through two steps: "interlocking" and "insertion." It is easy to assemble, has a certain load-bearing capacity, and is widely used in tubular packaging boxes.

Automatic Locking Bottom
The automatic locking bottom packaging box uses a pre-glued processing method, but it can still be flattened after gluing. When used, just open the box body, and the bottom will automatically return to the locked state. It is extremely convenient, saves time and labor, and has good load-bearing capacity. It is suitable for automated production and is generally used for packaging designs that carry heavy items.

Swing Lid Double Insertion Bottom
The structure is exactly the same as the swing lid insertion lid. This design is easy to use, but the load-bearing capacity is weak. It is usually suitable for packaging food, stationery, toothpaste, and other small or lightweight goods. It is a common packaging box design structure.

Partition Bottom
The partition bottom structure designs the four swing flaps of the tubular packaging box with a partition function. After assembly, partitions are formed inside the box body, effectively separating and fixing the goods, providing good protection. The partition and the box body are integrated, effectively saving costs, and this packaging box structure has high compressive strength.

Other Evolved Structures
Based on the above commonly used basic packaging box structure models, other structural forms can also be designed and evolved.

Disc-type packaging structure design
The disc-type packaging box structure is a paper box structure formed by folding, interlocking, or bonding the four sides of the cardboard. This type of packaging box usually has no changes at the bottom, and the main structural changes are reflected in the box body. Disc-type packaging boxes generally have a smaller height, and the display area of the goods is larger after opening. This type of paper box packaging structure is mostly used for packaging textiles, clothing, shoes and hats, food, gifts, handicrafts, etc., with the top and bottom lid and airplane box structures being common.

Main forming methods of disc-type packaging boxes
1) Separate insertion assembly: No bonding or locking is required, making it easy to use.
2) Locking assembly: The structure is made more robust through locking.
3) Pre-adhesive assembly: Partial pre-adhesion makes assembly easier.
